Student Information Sharing Opt-Out
The school district's policy regarding the sharing of student information with post-secondary institutions, including colleges, universities, and military recruiters. This is a common practice designed to help connect our students with future educational and career opportunities.
Federal and State Requirements:
Under federal and state law (including the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), formerly known as the No Child Left Behind Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)), we are required to provide names, addresses, and telephone listings of high school students to military recruiters upon request.
Furthermore, our district aims to provide students with the fullest possible access to post-secondary information by sharing similar directory information (e.g., name, address, phone number, and student email) with colleges, universities, scholarship programs, and other legitimate non-profit educational organizations.
The Benefit of Sharing:
Sharing this basic directory information can be very beneficial for your student:
- College/University Recruitment: Students may receive valuable information about admissions processes, campus visits, and academic programs tailored to their interests.
- Scholarship Opportunities: Students can be notified directly about scholarship opportunities that may help finance their education.
- Military Options: Students interested in service can receive direct communication regarding careers, testing, and potential benefits.
Opt-Out Option: Declining Information Sharing
We understand that some families may prefer that their student's information not be shared with any of these external organizations.
If you wish to prevent our school district from releasing your student's directory information to colleges, universities, scholarship organizations, and/or military recruiters, you must formally submit an "Opt-Out" request.
- Your Decision: You may choose to opt out of sharing with all external entities (colleges, scholarships, and military) or specifically just the military recruiters.
- Action Required: If you do not want your student's information shared, please complete the section below
Please Note: If you do not submit the Opt-Out form, we will assume you consent to the release of your student’s directory information to these external agencies throughout the current school year.
An Opt-Out request must be submitted each school year to remain effective.
